State Forest Dual Certification
DCNR’s Bureau of Forestry is committed to sustainably managing state forests in accordance with or exceeding FSC® and SFI® standards.
Pennsylvania state forests are certified (FSC® and SFI®) by Scientific Certification Systems under the Forest Stewardship Council™ and Sustainable Forestry InitiativeTM standards.
The FSC® is an independent organization supporting environmentally appropriate, socially beneficial, and economically viable management of the world's forests.
Timber harvested from Pennsylvania’s state forests is FSC® certified. This guarantees a chain-of-custody from the forest to the mill, ensuring that products are coming from forests managed in an environmentally responsible manner.
SFI® certification focuses on protection of water quality, biodiversity, wildlife habitat, species at risk, and forests with exceptional conservation value.
Dual certification ensures that Pennsylvania’s state forests are managed to the highest third-party standards.
