All-Terrain Vehicle Riding in Michaux State Forest
Michaux State Forest maintains over 30 miles of designated summer and over 40 miles of designated winter all-terrain vehicle trails.
Michaux All-Terrain Vehicle Trails are open from the Friday before Memorial Day through the last Sunday in September. Some trails reopen for winter use the third Sunday following Thanksgiving until April 1.
Trails can be accessed from the Big Flat Parking Area (1975 Birch Run Road, Biglerville PA 17307) and the Piney Mountain Parking Area (1721 Bendersville Road, Gardeners, PA 17324).

Rules and Regulations
- All-terrain vehicles are restricted to Class 1 (less than 50 inches wide and 1,200 pounds).
- All-terrain vehicles must be insured, registered with the Department of Conservation and Natural Resources, and comply with other regulations.
- Riders must wear a U.S. Department of Transportation approved helmet.
- ATVs are not permitted on Michaux State Forest roads
- Motorcycles and trailbikes are not permitted on all-terrain vehicle trails.
- Children under the age of 8 are not permitted to operate all-terrain vehicles on state forest lands.
- Between ages 8 and 16, completion of a Department of Conservation and Natural Resources-approved all-terrain vehicle safety course is required to operate an all-terrain vehicle on state forest land.
- Children between ages 8 and 9 are restricted to an engine size of 70cc or less.
