Horseback Riding in Moshannon State Forest

Horses may be ridden on all the state forest roads and trails designated as shared-use, which are blazed red.

Horseback riding is not permitted in the following areas and trails:

  • The Quehanna hiking trail (orange blazes)
  • District hiking trails (yellow blazes)
  • Designated natural areas
  • Areas specifically posted closed to horses

The Yellowsnake Camping Area near the town of Karthaus provides an opportune point of entry to enjoy nearly 50 miles of scenic equestrian trails in the Three Runs Region of both Moshannon and Elk State forests.

The North Run Camping Area and Benner Run Day-Use Parking Area also offer some great opportunities for equestrians in Centre County near Black Moshannon State Park.
